Custodian
8.0 Hrs/Day, Monday through Friday, evening shift
240 Days Year

The custodian is a member of the maintenance and operations team who is responsible for the cleaning and sanitizing work necessary to provide a safe, clean, and properly lit educational environment. Position involves working where needed throughout the District. This position is subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, SEIU Local 925.
SUPERVISION:
Supervision of custodians and schedules is the responsibility of the Maintenance Facilities Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to learn and follow schedules, carry out instructions and work cooperatively with other employees.
- Be highly self-motivated.
- Good health, both physical and mental. Possess the physical capabilities to perform the job, including the lifting of items such as ladders, cleaning products, supplies in excess of 40 lbs.
- Experience in cleaning buildings.
- Knowledge of proper use and care of equipment and materials used in custodial work.
- Be able to make the distinction between what is clean, sanitized and what isn't.
- Practice proper safety standards.
- Applicant responsible for obtaining and maintaining First Aid and CPR certification within six months of hire.
- Good attendance is essential.
DUTIES:
- Clean all areas assigned using approved methods and materials in accordance with performance expectations.
- Use cleaners, disinfectants and finishes according to directions.
- Refinish hard surface floors whenever necessary.
- Keep tools and machines clean and in good repair.
- Maintain custodial supplies as needed.
- Sweep outside areas adjacent to exit doorways. Daily litter and outside building pick up.
- Take care of minor maintenance problems.
- Understand the use and care of fire fighting equipment provided and know where and how to operate alarm systems.
- Practice proper safety conditions, eliminate and report hazards to prevent accidents.
- See that all doors and windows are locked and the buildings secured after the school day is over and the end of shift.
- Other duties as assigned.
DAILY PROCEDURES:
BATHROOM DAILY CLEANING MAY INCLUDE:
Restock dispensers with hand towels and toilet paper, clean mirrors, sinks, all lavatories, floors and sanitize bathrooms.
BUILDING DAILY CLEANING MAY INCLUDE:
Remove graffiti
Windows cleaned
Doors cleaned of smudges and handprints
Replace lights as needed
Check exit lights
Walls scrubbed as needed
Window ledges dusted
Trash removed from building
Custodian room kept clean and organized
Furniture cleaned and in good order; check for broken furniture
Remove writing and gum from furniture
Fire safety equipment checked, cabinets cleaned as needed
Every room cleaned per schedule
Check office for other building use during your shift
Dust all appropriate parts of rooms including computers and TV monitors
Check e-mail
Security of areas before leaving -- lights out, doors locked, windows closed
