QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid and appropriate Washington State Principal’s certificate.
  • Master’s Degree in educational administration or related fields.
  • Two years of successful experience as a principal and/or assistant principal is preferred.
  • Three years of successful teaching experience.
  • Proven skills in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Experience with technology and its relationship to the educational program.

  • A leader who is able to sustain a decision-making process that values the input of staff and students and creates a team spirit within the school.
  • Be skilled in communications and human relations and be capable of working honestly, openly and directly with differing personalities and points of view in staff, students and families. Visible, accessible and willing to listen to others with an open mind.
  • Be able to build mutually beneficial partnerships between the school and the community.
  • An understanding of the dynamics of balancing the academic, arts and athletic aspects of a school in a small community.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for organization, administration, supervision and evaluation of staff and programs for the high
  • Responsible for the organizing, planning and implementing the place-based themed instructional program and for the coordination of that program with other district schools.
  • Responsible for maintaining positive relationships between the school and the community.
  • Serve as a strong contributing member of the district’s administrative team.
  • Further the district's work in maintaining a robust multi-tiered system of support.
  • Serve as the CTE director for the district.

Port Townsend is proud of its unique status as Washington’s Victorian seaport and arts community.  While the largest employer is Port Townsend Paper Company, healthcare, tourism and marine trades are vital to the area’s economy. Port Townsend School District is committed to success for all students and provides a wide range of high quality instructional programs and extended learning opportunities for students.  The District serves 1,070 students in four schools: one elementary (Preschool to 5th Grade), a middle school (6th – 8th grade), a comprehensive high school (9th-12th Grade)  and alternative program school (OCEAN K-12th).  The District is focused on place-based learning, providing students choice in connecting their learning to the real-world and presenting solutions to authentic audiences.  The community, families, students, and staff are extremely proud of their schools and have demonstrated their ongoing support and pride through volunteerism, educational progress, and levy/bond approval.

Candidates are invited to apply for the position of principal of Port Townsend High School. 

 

The Position

 

Port Townsend School District is searching for an exceptional leader to serve as school principal in one of Washington’s most scenic communities located at the tip of the Olympic Peninsula. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, demonstrate strong leadership qualities, be an experienced educator and be able to inspire students, staff and faculty to high standards. The candidate must also demonstrate exceptional analytical and creative problem solving skills and ability to multi-task and fill multiple roles common to small school districts.  The candidate must demonstrate understanding and support of place-based learning that is integral to the vision for the schools and community. The successful candidate will collaborate with school staff to plan and deliver place-based learning in alignment with the district’s promise

 

Contractual Conditions

 

  • Annual contract (212 work days-8 Hr/Day)
  • Salary is dependent upon education, experience, and in accordance with the established administrator’s salary and benefit package.

     Salary range: $130,560-$149,032

 

BENEFITS:

Benefits include Sick Leave, Personal Leave, Medical, Dental, Vision, AD&D, and Basic Life insurance coverages for those meeting the 630 work hour requirement.  Retirement is through the WA State Department of Retirement, plans available: TERS Plan 2 or TERS Plan 3.

 

 The instructional program includes a strong project-based foundation, an emphasis on creativity and craftsmanship, a commitment to the arts, and a focus on learning through the student experience.
