QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Hold a current Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement.
  2. Demonstrated special education teaching experience.
  3. Use of instructional programs that provide appropriate instruction for students with disabilities.
  4. Assess needs of students using appropriate diagnostic measures.
  5. Knowledge of AAC and other communication devices.
  6. Knowledge and/or willingness to be trained in specialized health care and self-care procedures.
  7. Knowledge and experience conducting parent meetings; and writing and implementing IEPs.
  8. Ability to implement direct instruction programs and specially designed curriculum.
  9. Knowledge and experience with inclusionary models of service delivery.
  10. Ability to develop schedules for special education students and paraeducators.
  11. Knowledge of the legal requirements of Special Education.
  12. Knowledge and experience with regular education curricula and Common Core State Standards, and the ability to modify such for special needs students.
  13. Knowledge and experience with current research and instructional "best practices."
  14. Ability to develop and implement behavior intervention plans.
  15. Actively monitor IEPS for progress.
  16. Outstanding communication skills, flexibility, ability to work in teams, and sense of humor.
  17. Demonstrated skill and competence in computer skills, awareness of technology for use in the classroom, and familiarity with assistive hardware and software.
  18. Demonstrated compatibility with fellow staff members, students and families and contribute to total school program.
  19. Demonstrated understanding and support of place-based learning.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implement a range of appropriate instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  2. Work in partnership with families and classroom teachers on IEP development and implementation to achieve maximum student success.
  3. Provide support to identified students to maintain appropriate behavior and safety in the school environment by establishing discipline guidelines and behavior plans, evaluation, assisting students to gain self control, and utilizing physical restraint when necessary and according to guidelines.
  4. Collaborate with other Special Services team members on the MDT to complete referrals, assessments, make recommendations, design intervention plans and coordinate the implementation of plans.
  5. Collaborate with Special Education staff (including itinerant providers and paraprofessionals) to provide quality educational programs for identified students, assess and monitor student progress, evaluate and modify programs, teach direct instruction groups, conduct IEPs, develop work schedules, train paraeducators, facilitate team meetings, and demonstrate flexibility in working in a changing educational environment.
  6. Actively collaborate to support inclusionary practices and UDL.
  7. Participate in staff functions, committees, and meetings.
  8. Collaborate with school staff to plan and deliver place-based learning in alignment with the district’s mission and vision.

 Bargaining Unit: Port Townsend Education Association

 

Salary Range: DOE, 2024-25 $60,000-$116,667 (prorated by FTE)

Benefits include Sick Leave, Personal Leave, Medical, Dental, Vision, AD&D, and Basic Life insurance coverages.  Retirement is through the WA State Department of Retirement, plans available: TERS Plan 2 or TERS Plan 3.
