POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician is a member of the Maintenance and Facilities team responsible for

the inspection, maintenance, repair, and operation of district buildings, systems, and equipment.

This position supports a wide range of facility needs including but not limited to HVAC,

plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, access control systems, lighting systems, and building

systems to ensure safe, efficient, and functional school environments.

 

The position requires a strong work ethic, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work

independently and as part of a team. This role also includes working with modern building

systems, including building automation and control systems, to monitor and optimize building

performance. This position is 8:30 am–5:00 pm (includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch). This

position is supervised by and reports to the Director of Maintenance and Facilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Demonstrated experience in general maintenance or a related skilled trade (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical systems, refrigeration, lighting systems, and access control systems
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) or building controls
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of building and equipment issues
  • Experience using tools, equipment, and materials associated with maintenance work
  • Ability to read and interpret basic plans, diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining safe and functional facilities
  • Ability to follow directions, carry out instructions, and complete assigned tasks

  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and reliability, with a consistent record of attendance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and supervisors
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and use basic computer systems
  • Valid driver’s license (required)
  • Ability to perform physical work, including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to adjust work schedule as needed to support early morning or emergency response situations

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of district buildings, systems, and equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair systems such as but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and lighting systems
  • Monitor, operate, and adjust building automation systems to maintain proper operation and energy efficiency
  • Maintain and troubleshoot access control systems, door hardware, and locking systems
  • Perform installation, repair, and replacement of equipment, fixtures, and building components
  • Perform preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment
  • Inspect facilities and identify maintenance needs, including lighting issues, safety
  • concerns, and repair priorities
  • Maintain and repair doors, hardware, fixtures, lighting systems, and building components
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors as needed
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and preventative maintenance activities
  • Respond to work orders and prioritize tasks based on urgency and impact
  • Assist grounds and custodial staff as needed to support district operations
  • Assist with snow removal and ice control, including clearing walkways and applying deicing materials to maintain safe access
  • Support fire alarm testing and drills, including coordination and ensuring systems are

functioning properly

  • Support setup, teardown, and facility needs for events as required
  • Identify and report safety hazards and take appropriate corrective action
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing, and use of tools and equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to mechanical systems, electrical systems, noise, dust, and chemicals

 

Salary Range: 2025-26 is $31.60 – $39.26 per hour, depending on school district or equivalent professional experience and in accordance with the SEIU negotiated contract. 

The salary for the 2026-27 school year will be adjusted by IPD when available.
